Betta Splendens (i.e. the Siamese Fighting Fish) is our hobby. We are trying to breed quality Australian Bettas for all to share. We live in Far North Queensland, Australia, our names are Najina and Patrick and we truly hope you enjoy our fish as much as we do.

Betta Splendens are some of the most colourful and most recognised tropical fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby. They have certainly come a long way from the wild species found in the shallow waters of South East Asia. We breed mostly Half Moons but also try our hand at Double Tails, Crown Tails and Plakats. We have been involved with Australian betta clubs, Betta Australis and the Australian Betta Club as well as the International Betta Congress. We are members on several Betta forums including AusAqua, Betta Club (Singapore) and Bettas4all. There is a lot of information regarding all aspects of bettas on these sites and many others

We've been breeding bettas since the middle of 2004 and we have been fairly successful in raising some beautiful fish. We have had Copper-Gold Plakats in the Aquarama 2005 International Betta Show and we have also entered fish into local and International Betta Shows held in Australia. The majority of the events were organised by Jodi-Lea of Aussie Bettas and Betta Australis and a big thanks to her for all the time, effort and support. Our bettas have competed well against the International imports and the many quality locally bred bettas. We have had some places in various classes including some first place positions in multi-colour and blue Veil Tails, a Copper-Gold Double Tail and female Cambodian Crown Tail. At the 2005 Royal Queensland Show held in Brisbane, we also had a Copper-Gold Plakat nominated as best Australian Bred Betta. For us this is just the start as we aim to improve our own lines further.

We have a show champion !! BOS DT CopperGold (Small).jpg (80073 bytes)

At the Brisbane 2006 Pet Expo judged by IBC accredited judge Todd Knight, one of our Copper-Gold DTHM males placed Best of Show. As well as this we had some of our Red HM line perform well. We had a 1st in Red HM class (Non-Iridescent), 1st in HM breeding pairs and 2nd overall breeding pair (Red HM), 3rd overall HM (Red), 2nd place female with a Blue DT and 3rd place in Crown Tail class with a Red CT. Once again thanks to Jodi-Lea for organising the show.

At the 2006 Royal Queensland Show our bettas took out more prizes. The RNA betta show was run according to RNA rules and judged according to IBC standards. We had a Copper-Gold Butterfly Double Tail took out Grand Champion. He was the son of the DT pictured above who also won the Brisbane Pet Expo. In fact we took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Double Tail class which we are very happy about. Other places included 1st Crown Tail, 2nd Female and a 3rd in the Half-Moon class. All the results can be seen here.

For photos of some of our favourite bettas go to our gallery. Most are bred by us.

This site is a constant work in progress and one day we may even come close to finishing it. We hope that you will find some useful information about Betta Splendens, such as how to breed them, caring and feeding, diseases, medications and treatments and other Betta facts. The information provided by us is only how we go about things. It is not the only way and may not be the best way but it works for us. We thoroughly recommend doing your research (Google it -- that's where we started) when it comes to owning and breeding Bettas or any fish or animal for that matter. There are a number of helpful Betta sites and forums we post links to on our site. They are extremely useful and are worth visiting. There are also links to other relevant Australian and overseas sites.

We usually have a number of bettas in our care and endeavour to have a number of spawns under way at any given time. Some of these will be for sale so check out the "For Sale" section if you are interested. If not then we hope you enjoy the pictures of our fish as much as we do.

Throughout this site and many others, you might find a number of abbreviations used to describe Betta Splendens. If you are new to the world of Bettas they may mean nothing to you. Hopefully this list of the most common abbreviations will help..
